Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has gone live with its Agfa HealthCare ORBIS ICU-Manager critical care information system.
The solution is being deployed in the Adult Critical Care units of the Royal Derby Hospital and the project has been sponsored by the Integrated Digital Care Fund (IDCF). It is the first ‘go-live’ in the UK for ORBIS, which is one of the most widely installed electronic patient record and clinical software solutions in Europe.
“We chose ORBIS for its user focus, flexibility and exciting cross-platform development roadmap. An ICU patients needs may range from simple observation to highly complex, multiple organ support; information capture, processing and display need to mirror the patient. Accurate data, cleanly displayed, with integrated decision support, reduces the risk of potential errors, improves efficiency and releases time for the more human aspects of care” explains Dr Nick Reynolds, Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Trust said they chose Agfa HealthCare’s leading clinical information system (CIS) ORBIS for its unique configuration ability to support the specific requirements of ICU environments. The ‘paperless’ and mobile-compatible ORBIS ICU-Manager
enables the automated collection of data from monitors and devices, removing the need for transcription.
The ORBIS ICU Manager is being deployed at the Trust in two phases. Phase 1 (the current deployment) includes the configurable, interactive observation chart integrated with critical care bedside devices, a reporting module, and a clinical note module supporting the SNOMED CT terminology. Phase 2 will follow, deploying ORBIS Medication for managing medication workflows, with a closedloop process that comprises drug prescription, drug administration, pharmaceutical consult/validation and resupply logistics. Advanced nursing, decision support, automated ICNARC capture and output (the UK’s Intensive Care National Audit and Research Center), funding stream outputs and clinical analytics modules will also be implemented in that phase.
