Pharmacist can now access the Summary Care Record with one-click
Pharmacists can now access vital patient information through a new Summary Care Record (SCR) 1-click function.
The 1-click function allows pharmacy professionals logged in on their Smartcard to click straight through to a selected patient’s SCR, without having to log in separately and complete a manual search.
Tahmina Rokib Pharmacist and Clinical Lead for Digital Medicines & Pharmacy at NHS Digital said: “SCR 1-click will allow pharmacists quicker access to critical information when carrying out community pharmacy advanced services. This is a great first step to integrating core clinical tools into systems to make things more efficient for busy health care professionals. It would be great to see integration of SCR and other digital tools by more system suppliers in the future so that clinicians can fully reap the benefits.”
“Improved access to SCR will support pharmacists to provide better and safer care for patients through more informed decision making due to quicker access to information.”
Pharmacies can access the Summary Care Record to:
- check allergies to prevent prescribing errors
- check current medications prescribed for emergency supply purposes
- check eligibility for services such as a free flu jab

Fertility startup raises £1m
Praetura Ventures has announced it is backing fertility startup Dr Fertility in a £1m seed round. The first investment of Praetura’s maiden EIS Fund will be used to develop Dr Fertility into a full-service digital health platform.
Founded by Dr Lucy Buckley, PhD and Kobi McCardle in June 2018, Dr Fertility was created to address the problem of unreliable information about fertility. With patients having to wait up to two years between GP advice and the first outpatient appointment, and no central, official platform for fertility advice, the founders saw the need to support the 1 in 7 couples in the UK that are affected by infertility.
Dr Lucy Buckley, PhD, co-founder of Dr Fertility, said “At Dr Fertility we are passionate about using our backgrounds in, healthcare, ecommerce and marketing to provide a one stop destination to support people on their fertility journey. We work with leading experts to develop fertility education and offer quality products to help people to better understand their own fertility and educate them on the positive steps they can take. Our vision is to build the world leading digital health platform for fertility, offering an end-to-end solution to help support people wherever they are on their journey. With the backing of Praetura Ventures and our Angel investor, we’re looking forward to making our platform scalable so we can reach as many people around the world as possible.”
Guy Weaver, Director at Praetura Ventures, said “Dr Fertility’s ambition has impressed us since day one. They’ve already grown so much in the short time they’ve been operating, which shows us they’re gaining a lot of momentum. With their unique proposition in a growing market we’re confident we’re going to see great things from Lucy, Kobi and their growing team.”
Canon Medical and Imagex partner
A new multi-vendor service partnership has been announced by equipment manufacturer Canon Medical Systems UK and independent ultrasound service provider, Imagex Medical.
The offering will streamline the way maintenance and repairs are carried out on frontline diagnostic ultrasound imaging systems. Instead of 2-4 different Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) visiting hospital departments at different times to service systems or undertake repairs, one specialist engineer trained across many different OEM systems can undertake all the equipment service needs.
Jeff Norrie, Chief Technician, Medical Engineering Department at Good Hope Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust states, “We have 45 ultrasound systems at Good Hope Hospital serving a patient catchment population of 450,000. Smooth maintenance and servicing is essential to have good service audit trails and ensure equipment health is kept at an optimum level to meet increasing clinical demands.”
Jim Lowbridge, Commercial Director at Imagex Medical states, “We’re excited to be entering into this multi-vendor partnership with Canon Medical Systems UK and supporting the UK healthcare marketplace with an alternative to OEM service support or managed equipment providers. As an independent specialist in ultrasound service support we focus on keeping equipment running to meet all clinical and operational needs.”
