University College London Hospitals, Great Ormond Street and Cambridge University Hospitals are utilising tools from Epic to help manage the COVID-19 pandemic.
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children is using video visits in Epic to deliver care to patients at home, along with a courier service to deliver prescriptions.
Patients and families are being contacted using the MyChart solution, Epic’s patient portal, to provide information and education on how to safely receive care.
A spokesperson for Epic said to HTN “Every patient who comes to the hospital is screened using questionnaires, and clinicians will be able to use analytical tools in Epic to track COVID-19 cases, ventilator, and intensive care bed space availability in real time.”
“With contact tracing in Epic, infection preventionists can know who a patient has come into contact with while at the hospital, helping prevent further spread of COVID-19.”
Cambridge University Hospitals is using analytical tools in Epic to manage screenings, test results, and resources. This mean clinicians can track and monitor patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19. The trust is also using the patient portal to communicate with patients outside of the hospital.
Staff at University College London Hospitals are receiving COVID-19 data when they need it using mobile apps.
Through Care Everywhere, Epic’s interoperability network used to electronically exchange patient records, and common use of Beacon chemotherapy protocols, UCLH and Great Ormond Street are collaborating to make the best use of their facilities.
