NHS Digital has updated the Summary Care Record screen with national standard clinical terms specifically relating to COVID-19.
Five of the SNOMED CT commonly used terms for suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases are signposted by a yellow message box when viewing the Summary Care Record screen.
The information is also made available on iPads as part of a pilot of the tool used at London Ambulance Service, Weldricks (chain of community pharmacies) and Defence Medical Services for reservists. As part of an extended pilot, all frontline London Ambulance clinicians will be able to access the SCRa private beta using iPads.
An employee close to the project commented “it’s the first time we’ve changed the SCR screen in a long, long time and is dynamically generated based on particular SNOMED Codes – again, first time we’ve done that.”
Four of the terms relate to whether the patient has a diagnosis of confirmed COVID-19 based on laboratory test results or clinical diagnostic criteria. The fifth term relates to whether the patient has suspected COVID-19, which will include assessments by NHS 111 telephone service. Negative test results and other COVID-19 related information may be present on a patient’s SCR, however the yellow message box will not be displayed to signpost to this information.
The SNOMED Codes include:
