The Faculty of Clinical Informatics opens for applications

The Faculty of Clinical Informatics has opened a call for applications for new members and fellows, to add to its membership base of 780 clinical informaticians.

The professional membership charity supports health and social care informaticians across the UK, with an aim to advance the profession and support the best use of information and information technology. Through developing standards, eduction and training, guidance and networking, the organisation intends to continue to develop the practice of clinical informatics and now aims to grow its network further.

Over the next year the organisation will develop and publish core competency standards for clinical informatics to help ensure that individuals and their employers are clear about the skills and experience required for clinical informatics roles. It aims to provide guidance and support, ensure practice standards are maintained, and provide training and professional accreditations.

The Faculty has also launched a new International Membership category for international clinical informaticians who want to get involved.

Mahmood Adil, Public Health Scotland, said: “FCI is an excellent platform and good starting point for raising the profile and mainstreaming clinical informatics within NHS and beyond.

“I was keen to join the Faculty and interact with other like-minded colleagues for achieving its key objectives i.e. to develop professional competencies for clinical informaticians and to provide accreditation for informatics-based training programmes.”

An assessment panel will be looking for applications to provide clear and concise accounts of their experience, achievements and enthusiasm within, and commitment to, clinical informatics. The deadline to apply is 22 March 2021.
