Market consultation opens for digital transformation of screening services

NHS England and NHS Improvement’s Transformation Directorate has launched a market consultation activity focused on the digital transformation of screening services and is asking suppliers for input.

The aim of this market engagement is to make suppliers aware of potential tenders, and for NHSEI to understand from suppliers if there is an interest in possible opportunities, and whether the market will be in a position to bid for and deliver the stated services.

The Digital Transformation of Screening programme is exploring how to transform the 11 NHS screening programmes that are delivered, with the first focus to be on the breast screening programme. This will then be extended to the remaining NHS screening programmes.

Its purpose is to build on previous engagements to gain an understanding of the digital products available to buy, to support the development of an outline business case. Insights gathered from the market will be used, alongside NHS Digital and delivery partner IBM, to articulate the “what, how, when and who” for the digital delivery capability and roadmap in support of digital transformation of screening services.

The consultation notice highlights an interest in digital tools used in other countries, particular following World Health Organisation principles, and suggests a focus on modularisation for specific clinical programmes.

To provide input, a questionnaire is now open and has a closing date of 18 May 2022.
