Babylon and Bupa sign 3-year partnership

Babylon and Bupa UK have agreed a deal for a further three years for Babylon to continue to provide digital services, including its symptom checker, 24/7 virtual consultations and access to clinical records.

Since the organisations partnered in 2015, 360,000 Bupa UK insurance customers have downloaded the Babylon app, with the latest partnership aiming to extend the digital service to Bupa’s 2.3 million customers.

James Sherwood, General Manager for Operations and Healthcare Management at Bupa UK Insurance, commented on the extension: “Having fast access to GP care is increasingly important for our customers to support their everyday health and wellbeing. We’ve seen growing use of the service over the past two years, with around 8,000 appointments a week. We’re pleased to continue working with Babylon to enhance our digital services for our customers.”

Dr. Ali Parsa, Babylon’s Founder & CEO, added: “We are delighted that Bupa continues to put its trust in Babylon as its partner. We look forward to going further together to reimagine their customers’ experience of healthcare from a reactive, episodic clinic centric service for when they are sick or in crisis to a more proactive, continuous and person centric service designed to keep their customers at the peak of their health.”

In other news at Bupa, the company has launched its annual eco-Disruptive competition, which aims to “seek out sustainable start-ups to bring new and transformative concepts to the mainstream”. The challenge is focusing on six areas that positively impact the environment and human health: decarbonisation; circular solutions; sustainable products and services; sustainable healthcare choices, healthy buildings; and urban restoration and regeneration.

Six start-ups will receive initial funding to further develop their business plans and learn from expertise in the health and care industry. To find out more, visit the Bupa website here.
