Tandem Health secures $50 million in Series A funding for AI-native operating system

European health tech company, Tandem Health has secured $50 million in Series A funding for the creation of an AI-native operating system that can be used to support the full clinical workflow.

Having already developed an AI assistant that generates clinical notes, Tandem plans to build “something more complete” in an AI operating system. According to the company, the system will support coordination of care, capturing the right clinical codes and supporting decisions within the clinical workflow.

“The future of healthcare will be shaped by whether healthcare workers can spend their time doing the work only they can do. This funding helps us support more of that work,” Tandem shared. “We don’t believe in replacing clinicians. We believe in removing friction, quietly and respectfully, so their attention can go where it’s needed most.”

This round of funding was led by entrepreneurial investor Kinnevik, with additional contributions from investors Northzone, Amino Collective and Visionaries Club.

Shortly following this funding round and the introduction of the European Health Data Space regulations, Tandem announced a new partnership with e-health company, Cambio Open Services. This reportedly allows them to connect with existing systems and “build direct integrations with Cambio’s healthcare information system COSMIC”.

Tandem recently shared how they have expanded into Finland, with the aim to “reduce documentation time, ease administrative pressure, and improve the daily reality of clinical work”. As part of this expansion, they have appointed Dr Johan Sanmark as the country director for the region.

Investing in AI: the wider trend

Foresight Group recently invested £3 million into the digital healthcare solutions provider, MyWay Digital Health Ltd, to go towards the development of AI-enabled products and to support commercial expansion in the global market. This includes the development of AI-enabled products, predictive analytics and personalised care pathways to help “reduce the burden of chronic disease, with a particular emphasis on diabetes”.

US-based AI company, Ambience Healthcare secured $243 million in Series C funding to continue expanding its AI platform across health systems, to help make “care teams more effective everywhere” and “accelerate the delivery of products”. The platform was developed to support documentation and coding as a way to improve clinical workflow throughout healthcare, integrating with different EHR systems and adapting to the “unique context of each care setting and specialty without requiring workflow redesign or staff retraining”.

Digital healthcare platform Numan has raised £45 million in Series B funding to support the company’s continued growth and expansion into wider international markets. Scaling the platform’s infrastructure, expanding marketing efforts and advancing AI-driven capabilities have also been noted as key focus areas.

The Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT) announced the launch of the Digital Innovation Fund, a grant designed to support digital inclusion projects and innovative interventions across the UK. The £9.5 million grant will see a share of £7.242 million go to projects within England, with the remaining funds being shared equally between Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, in order to achieve their ultimate goal of helping to “shape the Government’s evolving digital inclusion strategy”.
