Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys progresses EPR programme ahead of 2027 EPR go-live

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is progressing with its EPR programme, noting the beginning of clinical validation workshops and workforce engagement initiatives.

The CCIO of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust has taken to LinkedIn to share an update on progress toward the trust’s scheduled 2027 go-live of the Rio EPR system.

Referring to the coming week as a “pivotal” one in the journey toward go-live, Venkatesh Muthukrishnan, CCIO,  shared that it marks the beginning of clinical validation workshops which will see clinicians coming together to inform the development of the system.

“It’s inspiring to see the level of engagement and commitment from colleagues across the Trust,” Muthukrishnan stated. “This is what meaningful digital transformation looks like: not technology-led, but clinically led. Our focus is clear—ensuring our processes are safe, effective, and truly support patient care. Because if we get this right, the product will follow.”

The CCIO then moved on to thank everyone involved in the process so far, adding: “Your voice will directly shape the system we all rely on.”

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys signed its contract with The Access Group iin April. Nick Black, CIO and senior information risk owner, detailed how the move followed a “robust” procurement process, noting: “I haven’t been this excited about tech for years – the transformational and productivity opportunities are endless. Underpinned by cutting edge AI driven dev tooling (cutting edge for business not just for healthcare).”

Wider trend: EPR

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is celebrating the successful launch of phase two of its Nervecentre EPR, “significantly” expanding its functionality and moving forward with hopes of realising “safer” and “more coordinated” care. The phase two launch incorporates urgent and emergency care, and allows clinical documentation, internal referrals, bed management, and e-observations to be completed within the EPR.

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is celebrating the go-live of phase one of its EPR, with the trust offering its thanks to all those involved in helping the go-live run “smoothly”. Taking to LinkedIn, the trust said: “Thank you to all colleagues for your dedication – this has been a brilliant team effort across NCIC!” Floorwalkers and the command centre were on hand to offer support for ward teams during the go-live, it continues, with members of the Alcidion team also on site to pitch in.

Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group has put forward its suggested timeline for a three-phase delivery of its EPR, with the first two phases to be delivered by April 2027. Elements of the programme have been rescheduled to prevent clashes with urgent and emergency care components during peak winter pressures, according to the board, who also stress that the programme is currently in a “critical phase”. Strong engagement and focus from operational teams and end users is required, it continues, with further workflows to be designed, gaps in the organisational development model being “urgently addressed”, and oversight of the programme to increase from this month forward.
