A national bespoke system, called NHS e-Review, has been developed and launched as part of the NHS Covid Incident Recovery programme.
The online system has been developed to support clinicians record the clinical priority of patients on a waiting list and to identify alternative pathways for patients if required.
A letter sent to health providers and bodies stated: “A digital solution has been commissioned for use to support Trusts and Primary Care to clinically prioritise patients on waiting lists. This digital solution – the NHS e-Review – supports the process when patients on elective waiting lists are clinically reviewed, their priority status recorded, and a clear actionable disposition to be requested.”
“This will support Trusts in managing the most clinically urgent patients first, in addition to enabling waiting lists to be managed at a system level. The Clinical Prioritisation programme will be supported by North of England Commissioning Support to facilitate the rapid roll-out of NHS e-Review.”
“The priority is to clinically review all patients on an admitted patient care pathway to be completed by 23rd October, 2020.”
The software will be used to review all patients on waiting lists and to prioritise those with greatest clinical need, and identify which patients may need to receive treatment in independent sector hospitals.
All Trusts are required to complete a clinical validation of patients on an admitted patient care pathway by 23rd October, and for it to be captured in NHS e-Review.
Trusts will be required to identify four user groups for the system; a user to upload patients to the system, an administrator, a super user to upload and download waiting lists and the outcomes from clinical reviews, and a clinical reviewer who is responsible for reviewing a cohort of patients within a specialty.
