In a move to support health and care organisations’ move to more digital services, NHS Wales has committed a further £25 million in funding, Health and Social Services Minister Vaughan Gething has announced.
The new funding aims to support the Welsh Government’s Plan for Health and Social Care – A Healthier Wales. The plan centres on investing in new technology, to deliver better outcomes for their patient populations.
It will be used to support healthcare providers in rolling out video consultation solutions, support remote working, vaccination programmes and transform hospital, ambulance and social care systems.
It aims to target key areas such as intensive care, cancer, and eye care, with the new funding adding to £175 million already committed.
Minister for Health and Social Services, Vaughan Gething said: “Stepping up our digital investment at this pace and scale alongside our response to the pandemic and other pressures has been a challenge but it is a priority.
“The additional funding announced today will help us to invest in mobile devices, remote working and video consultation, and accelerate other strategic transformation projects.”
Recently in Wales, a contract was awarded to Redmoor Health to support the roll-out of virtual group clinics across Wales. The new programme aims to deliver virtual clinics to groups of people with similar health needs, including diabetes, asthma, rheumatology and dermatology.
The contract will see Redmoor Health train 250 healthcare providers, covering primary, community, and secondary care in Wales, with a video group clinics development support programme.
This week HTN announced NHS Wales signed a multi-year agreement with NHS Wales to drive the adoption of GS1 standards to identify, capture and share supply chain data.
