Velindre NHS Trust has selected CCube Cloud from Noveva Software Group to provide Wales’ flagship new oncology facility with a fully digital records platform.
The appointment follows a tender process conducted through the LPP framework, which Noveva successfully won to provide a secure, cloud-based electronic document management system for the trust’s new purpose-built cancer facility.
The new Velindre Cancer Centre represents a major investment in oncology services across Wales, scheduled to open spring 2027. As a modern, digitally enabled facility, the cancer centre will operate without traditional on-site paper record storage, relying instead on secure digital systems to manage and access patient records.
CCube’s EDMS will enable the digitisation, storage and secure retrieval of clinical documentation, helping Velindre University NHS Trust reduce reliance on paper-based records. The platform will also integrate with Welsh national healthcare infrastructure, including the Welsh Clinical Portal, helping clinicians access patient information within familiar systems and support an integrated digital healthcare environment.
This project marks Noveva Software Group’s third EDMS implementation in Wales, building on its existing long-term partnerships with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
On the announcement, Alistair Eaton, chief executive officer, Noveva Software Group, said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Velindre University NHS Trust as their technology partner for document management at the new Velindre Cancer Centre. Winning this contract through a rigorous LPP framework procurement process is a testament to the strength of our secure, cloud-based EDMS technology and our ability to deliver within the trust’s ambitious timeframes.”
Velindre University NHS Trust, added: “We selected Noveva Software Group as our EDMS partner due to their advanced cloud-based technology and their proven ability to deliver within the required timeframe. Their solution will enable us to digitise patient records and securely store them in the cloud ahead of the move to our state-of-the-art new Velindre Cancer Centre.”
Wider trend: From paper to digital
Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust recently went live with the CCube electronic document management system by Noveva Software Group. The platform was implemented across the trust, following a migration of 8 million digital documents from the previous incumbent Kainos Evolve system. The trust’s in-house scanning bureau is also scanning patient documents into the CCube platform, supporting the organisation in making a rich patient record available to health and care teams across the organisation.
For one of our latest panel discussions, we explored how organisations are tackling the challenges of paper and digital records. Our panellists included Stacey Sutherland, clinical digital documentation lead and change lead for trust-wide division at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton and Chesterfield Royal Hospital; Caroline Holmes, deputy director of patient data and records, digital services, at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust; Stefan Chetty, director of digital services at Restore Information Management; and Andrew Robertshaw, implementation manager at Restore Information Management. Panellists shared their progress, approach, insights around overcoming challenges in this space, and what worked well.
Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust shared insights into digital progress and priorities, outlining risks associated with digital systems sustainability and the latest updates on plans for a single EPR. By March 2027, NCA plans to procure and implement a single centralised electronic document management system, with activities to be completed, including digital destruction to support data migration and clinical documentation standardisation with “increased governance”.
