What happened? Built around Guardsquare’s core mobile application security capabilities, including DexGuard (Android), iXGuard (iOS), AppSweep, ThreatCast, and App Attestation, the platform provides a comprehensive approach that spans mobile app security testing, code hardening, runtime protection, real-time threat visibility, and API security. Healthcare mobile apps face threats both before and after release. Vulnerabilities may be introduced during development, but they do not disappear once the app is live. Attackers can reverse-engineer apps, tamper with code, intercept or manipulate data flows, abuse APIs, extract credentials, or use modified or non-genuine apps to commit fraud or compromise sensitive information. The platform helps healthcare organisations embed protection directly into Android and iOS apps, where threats increasingly occur. This includes continuous mobile application security testing to uncover weaknesses early, code hardening and obfuscation to make apps harder to analyze and exploit, runtime protections to detect and disrupt tampering and abuse, post-release threat monitoring to identify suspicious activity in the wild, and API protection to help defend the back-end services that mobile apps depend on.
Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust: Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust and Mobstr: Transforming mobile application security through automation
Overview: Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust (BDCFT) adopted Mobstr’s automated assessment platform to strengthen application security for mobile apps. It reviews apps for permissions, data practices, and vulnerabilities, improving risk management, compliance, patient safety, and data protection while reducing manual workload.
What happened? Mobstr provides comprehensive automated analysis of applications and browser extensions, enabling the trust to rapidly identify security, privacy and compliance risks. The platform examines a wide range of indicators, including application permissions, data transmission behaviour, encryption practices, embedded software components, known vulnerabilities and third-party data sharing activities. Rather than requiring security analysts to manually investigate each application, Mobstr delivers an automated risk assessment that highlights areas of concern and provides clear risk ratings. Applications that previously required hours of manual investigation can now be assessed automatically, allowing security teams to focus on strategic activities rather than repetitive analysis. The onboarding process of over 100 mobile apps occurred during one working week, with minimum interactions from the trust. By providing visibility into how applications handle data, what permissions they request and what external services they communicate with, the platform helps ensure that only appropriate and secure applications are introduced into the trust’s environment.
