69 GP IT system suppliers have been announced by NHS Digital to be awarded contracts to supply IT systems via the new GP IT Futures framework.
This includes 16 existing suppliers and 53 new entrants.
A review and rigorous assessment of the suppliers has taken place, and now a systems assurance process is underway.
The suppliers have been notified of their acceptance onto the framework, subject to passing the assurance process.
The framework as part of the Digital Buying Catalogue will act as a digital marketplace allowing buyers to search for and compare supplier solutions that will meet their needs.
Sarah Wilkinson, NHS Digital’s Chief Executive, said “GPs and their patients deserve the most effective and efficient modern technology with which to run their practices and access their data respectively, and the health and care system at large needs easier access to the critical data held within the primary care system to enable better secondary care and a richer flow of data into medical research.”

The current GPSoC contracts will expire on 31 December 2019 and NHS Digital’s aim is that transition to the new framework will be completed by then.
