Plans proposed to bring together NHSX and NHSE outpatient transformation programmes

In a move to drive outpatient transformation, a proposal is in process for the digital teams from NHSX and clinical transformation teams at NHS England to work closer together.

The new proposal aims to bring the Improvement directorate within NHSE leading on outpatient transformation programmes, together with digital teams from NHSX.

It aims to drive collaboration to re-design patient care pathways, and to continue on from the successes and pace seen during the past year in terms of progression with digital.

HTN contacted NHSX to understand the proposal further. A spokesperson from NHSX said the unit has found success when digital and other operational teams have worked closer together … “where it’s really, really worked is where we’ve been able to bring the teams doing the digital stuff together with the teams doing clinical transformation.”

NHSX said, any planned changes were going to be based around getting existing teams to work closer together, rather than removing any.

“If you can bring the digital teams together with those who are trying to redesign [the] pathways… and bring the digital stuff in from the start…it should make all the difference really and help join it up.

“So, it’s really more about bringing those two teams together and working more closely.”

Matthew Gould, CEO, NHSX, explained the need to join up teams that support tech, transformation and operations, he said: “The only approach that makes sense is for each organisation within health and care to incorporate the potential of digital technology in their core strategies.”
