Irish private hospital network selects EHR

Mater Private Network, a private hospital business in Ireland, has signed a deal with MEDITECH to implement its electronic health record (EHR).

The system will be introduced to replace a paper-based process and a number of systems used across its specialties and locations, the company said.

As part of the programme, Mater Private Network will also introduce Expanse Oncology, a specialty specific solution for oncologists. The tool provides specific workflows, mobile access and decision support.

John Hurley, CEO, Mater Private Network, commented: “The successful implementation and rollout of our electronic health record across Mater Private Network is a key pillar of our digital strategy.

“The ultimate beneficiary is the patient, and building our system around patient’s needs. The electronic health record will provide an extra level of seamless care for our patients, as well as the unique opportunity to increase patient safety and outcomes. We will also be able to optimise operational benefits, providing a solid foundation for the growth of our network.”

Prof. Robert Byrne, Director of Cardiology, Mater Hospital, added:  “Our electronic health record will have a significant impact on efficiency, quality of care and most importantly patient safety, with particular advantages to clinicians practicing across multiple sites.

“What’s exciting is that patient information can be shared across multiple systems, bringing all patient information together and making it accessible in real time, in one place.”

In November 2021, as part of HTN Now we welcomed Dr Natalie Canham, CCIO, and Matt Connor, CIO, both from Liverpool Women’s NHS FT that uses the MEDITECH solution, for a session on the trust’s digital programmes.
