Leeds Teaching shares glimpse of its hospitals for the future

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has shared a video providing a virtual overview of the two new state-of-the-art hospitals it is developing.

The trust is building two hospitals, one for adults and one for children, with plans to also build the largest single site maternity centre.

Technology is to support patients at every stage of their journey the trust notes, stating “that advances in technology will play a key role over the next 20-30 years and its designers have considered the relationship between design and digital as we move towards our digital hospitals of the future.”

Some of the aspects set to be introduced by the trust include digital apps to help patients and families find their way around, and some of the most advanced technologies for diagnosis and treatment, including imaging and surgery.

The trust also has an ambition to create an Innovation Village as part of this plan, a vibrant health, research and technology community, with hopes that it will provide approximately £11.2 billion in economic benefits and create 3,000 jobs.

Commenting on the children’s hospital, the trust said: “From the ground up, our new children’s hospital will be a completely different experience of hospital care – from the latest, cutting-edge technologies to the family-friendly surroundings.” They added: “Future technologies will be part of the fabric of our new children’s hospital.”
