Innovation applications open for SBRI Healthcare Competition 2024: delivering a net zero NHS

Applications open today (31 October) for SBRI Healthcare’s Competition 24: Delivering a Net Zero NHS for a Healthier Future, with early-stage innovations encouraged to apply to help “accelerate the development of greener innovations towards a more sustainable healthcare system”.

SBRI (Small Business Research Initiative) Healthcare aims to provide development funding to innovators and entrepreneurs to “devise disruptive solutions to unmet health and care needs within the NHS and the wider health and social care system”. The competition is seeking applications focusing around three key themes: clinical community engagement; novel business models to enable circularity in preoperative care and critical care settings; and net zero transformation across clinical pathways.

It is open to single organisations from the public, private or third sectors, based in the UK or the EU.

There will a drop-in Q&A session held 7 November 2023 at 1pm; more information can be found here. Applications close on 22 November 2023 and can be submitted here.

The briefing webinar on the competition, shared last month, can be viewed below.

Earlier this year, we shared how SBRI Healthcare awarded £6 million in funding to 18 innovations designed to improve patient care, save money and support NHS green plans.

HTN covered SBRI Healthcare’s net zero competition last year, when the focus was on decarbonising surgical pathways, reducing waste in surgery and critical care, net zero personalised care, and tools to support the workforce in delivering net zero.
