NHS England publishes pre-procurement notice for digital weight management programme

NHS England has published a pre-procurement notice for a digital weight management programme worth an estimated £23 million, with the aim of delivering a behavioural lifestyle intervention over a 12-week period for people living with obesity.

The procured service will provide dietary and physical activity advice and content, aligned to NHS guidelines; a programme build upon recognised behaviour change methodology designed to support weight management and help with adopting a healthy lifestyle; and reporting on user progress, including weight recordings, programme engagement and physical activity engagement.

NHSE highlights that the procurement is expected to include three lots, with the first providing access to a self-directed digital weight management programme; the second providing access to the programme with access to 50 minutes of individual coaching per user; and the third providing access to the programme with 100 minutes of individual coaching and specific tailoring of the service for groups experiencing health inequalities.

A market engagement event is set to take place on 22 August, with providers encouraged to register interest by 20 August. Find out more here.

Elsewhere in procurement

Earlier this month Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Trust launched an invitation to tender for a digital histopathology outsourced reporting solution, aiming to help tackle the trust’s challenges with staffing levels of consultant histopathologists.

In late June, HTN reported how Locala, a provider of NHS community healthcare services across West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, published a prior information notice regarding the planned procurement of AI transcribing software with the aim of enhancing efficiency and accuracy of medical transcription services.

Also in June, we covered the news that Essex County Council launched a tender worth £500,000 for a digital service offer for unpaid carers, which will feature a range of digital content and tools designed to “build resilience”.

And we highlighted how NHS Norfolk and Waveney ICB shared plans to procure a population health management digital solution capable of offering bespoke data analysis, technical solutions and digital platforms.
