NHS England launches Solution Exchange, an FDP-based catalogue

NHS England has launched its Solution Exchange, a catalogue of digital tools, solutions, and resources, designed to help NHS organisations discover and adopt new technologies.

Based in the Federated Data Platform (FDP), the catalogue is said to bring together proven tools and innovations with the aim of reducing duplication and accelerating the use of data-driven solutions. “NHS trusts and integrated care systems can browse the catalogue, deploy solutions directly into their local platform, or use the secure developer workspace to build and test new tools with sample data,” NHSE explains.

Tools and resources cover ready-made dashboards, analytical tools, reusable data models, resources for developers, templates, and best practice workflows. A section for common NHS tasks includes products for referral to treatment validation, discharge planning, Cancer 360, and patient-led validation. NHSE is also planning on introducing a rating system to allow users to give feedback on solutions from the catalogue.

The Solution Exchange is open to all NHS trusts and ICSs with an FDP instance, according to NHSE, although those without are still able to browse the public catalogue and register interest in tools for future access. NHS developers can request access to a secure developer workspace, build and test new tools using synthetic data, and submit solutions for review or catalogue inclusion.

Two webinars are scheduled for later in February to allow suppliers to ask questions and explore the potential benefits of signing up, with the first set for 18 February, 9:30 – 11am, covering how to apply, standards and assurance, the local procurement model, and benefits guidance. A follow-up on 25 February, 13:00 – 14:30pm, will then cover API integration, deployment, and the product developer environment.

Wider trend: Health innovation

East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust has published its Strategic Estates Plan to 2035, outlining its future state vision and plans for a strategic hub model enabled by technology. “The current EMAS estate was constructed for an ambulance service model that no longer reflects the scale, complexity, or operational needs of today’s service,” the trust shares. “Through a structured, prioritised programme, EMAS can secure an estate that is fit for purpose for the future, supporting next-generation emergency care for our people and patients.”

NHS Fife has published its digital framework 2025-2028, placing a strong focus on integration through the development of an EHR and digital front door, information availability at the point of care, the wider adoption of linked data and informatics, digital enablement, skills development, technical infrastructure, and cyber security. The board’s total digital allocation is recorded as £21 million, a reported 1.9 percent of NHS Fife’s total operating expenses. An allocation of £500,000 has also been made to support the board’s infrastructure lifecycle programme.
