Three NHS trusts across the Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership are rolling out BadgerNet, a maternity electronic patient record system.
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust are introducing the system to replace current paper-based records.
The trusts are rolling-out an online portal and app, to provide digital access to records and support expectant parents to self-refer directly into the service where they will be assigned to a midwife and an appointment will be generated. A telephone service will also be an option for those who do not have digital access.
Becky Case, local maternity and neonatal system programme lead, Humber, and North Yorkshire, commented: “This is positive news for families across our region. The new system is secure and puts control in hands of families and easy access to their notes for the healthcare professionals involved in their care,
“The app is easy to use and so we expect that most parents-to-be will enjoy the benefits almost straightaway. We feel that this portal allows us to enhance our person-centred approach, putting families at the heart of their maternity care throughout the pregnancy and post-natal journey.”
HTN reported on the ICS in late 2022, covering the news of a communication campaign to support patients with accessing new appointment methods and to understand the digital options. The campaign included a series of videos to help communicate digital healthcare channels and changes.

The region has also shared their digital transformation investment plan, which provides some insight into the ICS’s digital plans over the next three years. Financial year 2023/24 is described as the “uplift” stage, with focus on building core foundations to lift digital and data across the ICS to all partners, enabling cross-system transformation.
