The NHS App provides a simple and secure way to access a range of healthcare services on a smartphone or tablet. Developed by NHS Digital and NHS England, it is now being tested by patients at 30 GP practices across England. The NHS App will be rolled out gradually across England from December 2018 to patients aged 16 and over.
The NHS App is not currently available in app stores and Patients can only test it if their GP practice is taking part in the pilot, and they have been invited to test the app.
The practices going live with the app over a number of weeks will test how well the app works, how we can improve the communications materials, such as posters and leaflets and the impact on the practices’ workload.
The App integrates with the four general practice clinical systems and once registered a patient can check their symptoms using NHS 111 online and the symptom checker on the NHS website, book and manage appointments at their GP practice and order their repeat prescriptions.
The App also allows a patient to securely view their GP medical record, register as an organ donor and choose whether the NHS uses their data for research and planning.
