DeepHealth acquires AI diagnostic company to support breast cancer care

DeepHealth, provider of a portfolio of AI solutions designed to support breast, lung, prostate and neurological care, has acquired London-based cancer diagnostic company Kheiron Medical Technologies Limited, as part of efforts to expand its portfolio of AI-powered diagnostic and screening solutions.

Kheiron’s Mammography Intelligent Assessment (Mia) offers an AI-powered platform for breast screening, combining novel deep learning methods and radiology insights to identify malignancies in mammograms, reportedly supporting “improved efficiency, consistency, and accuracy of radiology reporting”.

From Kheiron, co-founder Peter Kecskemethy shared hopes that as part of DeepHealth’s portfolio “we will be even better positioned to equip radiologists with the tools they need to detect even the most subtle lesions and further optimise breast cancer screening.”

AI in healthcare

HTN explored how AI is being utilised across the NHS including the diagnosis of skin cancers and detecting of cancerous tumours during colonoscopies here; and we looked into different use cases including identification of abnormalities with the potential to lead to bowel cancer here.

In other AI use cases within healthcare, we noted how a team from the University of Huddersfield worked on the development of a secure threat intelligence sharing platform with the aim of helping to protect AI-enabled diagnostic tools from cyber attacks.

And we also highlighted a call for more use of AI machine learning and technology in suicide prevention practices.

Wider acquisition news

Earlier this month we reported how Huma, a global company offering AI and digital healthcare solutions, announced its acquisition of eConsult, a digital-first triage and automated consultation platform following the launch of Huma’s Cloud Platform and Workspace solutions.

In the summer we noted how patient engagement platform DrDoctor acquired Maia from Mindwave Ventures, a personal health record platform custom built for mental health care, marking DrDoctor’s move into the mental health space.

From earlier in the year, we covered news of Agilio acquiring specialist pharmacy e-learning business Mediapharm, and CCube Solutions acquiring Thomson Screening Solutions, supplier of child health clinical applications.
