X-on Health offers support to GP practices affected by Silicon Practice shutdown

X-on Health is offering up to three months’ free access to digital patient support and online consultation tools to help GP practices maintain patient access following Silicon Practice entering administration.

The disruption has affected hundreds of practices across England and Wales, leaving some without websites and online consultation services. GP Online reported that up to 600 GP practices have been affected, raising concerns about how patients can continue to access information and request support.

One of HTN’s partners, X-on Health, has responded by offering up to three months’ free access to its AI-powered digital assistant, Surgery Assist Lite, to all affected practices. The solution can be deployed in as little as 10 minutes, without additional clinical safety work, helping practices quickly establish an alternative digital support route.

X-on Health has highlighted the importance of protecting practice capacity alongside restoring access. While online consultation forms provide a route for patient requests, directing all patients straight to these forms risks increasing demand on already stretched teams.

Surgery Assist Lite aims to help address this by providing answers to common questions, practice information and signposting to appropriate health and social care services before patients submit a request.

For existing Surgery Connect customers who have also lost access to their Online Consultation service, Footfall, X-on Health is extending its offer to include access to Omni Consultations, combining Online Consultation Forms with an optional AI-powered Voice Agent.

The solution allows patients to submit medical, administrative and prescription requests online via Surgery Assist or over the telephone, with both routes feeding into the same workflow within the Surgery Connect Phonebar.

Practices can introduce the Voice Agent immediately or at a later stage, providing flexibility as they restore services. The combined approach reflects X-on Health’s commitment to equitable access, giving patients a choice of how they contact their practice.

Max Gattlin, Director at X-on Health, commented: “When a practice suddenly loses its website or online consultation service, the impact goes beyond technology. Patients lose familiar ways to access support, while reception teams face additional pressure. We want to help practices restore those routes as quickly and simply as possible, giving their teams some breathing space while they make longer-term arrangements. By making these tools available with minimal setup, we hope to make a difficult situation a little easier for practices and the patients who depend on them.”
