NHSMail open to care providers

Care providers can now gain access to NHSmail, once they have completed the entry level of the online Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT), NHS Digital has announced.

The DSPT is an online self-assessment tool for data security, supporting organisations to ensure that they have the right processes and practices in place to manage and hold data safely. It is mandatory for providers who provide care through an NHS contract, though all providers are encouraged to complete it if they hold, process and share data.

Wendy Clarke, Executive Director of Product Development at NHS Digital, said: “There are two key benefits to this entry level version of the DSPT. Firstly, it enables care providers to share information more easily and securely with the NHS. This can only lead to better, more integrated care for patients and improved ways of working for health and care professionals. Secondly, it supports care sector organisations to demonstrate to their regulatory body that they are managing and holding data securely and safely.”

Sensyne Health signs agreements with George Elliot and Wye Valley

Sensyne Health plc, the British clinical AI technology company has signed a strategic research agreement with George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and Wye Valley NHS Trust.

The agreement will allow the company to analyse anonymised patient data using clinical artificial intelligence (Clinical AI) technology. The purpose of the research is to derive new insights that will improve the care of NHS Trust patients and help to find new treatments. This new agreements will provide rich longitudinal anonymised data for analysis covering almost 2million hospital admissions from a patient population of approximately 520,000. The Trust will receive a £2.5 million equity stake in Sensyne Health (at a price of £1.75 per share).

Acorns Children’s Hospice benefits from HR system

The hospice has embraced new digital methods – including the automation of its payroll process and devolution of specific tasks to self-service – designed to free up more resource time to spend on planning and delivering frontline support.

Becky Mallon, Head of HR at Acorns Children’s Hospice said: “As a charity with limited resources, it is essential that our processes are as efficient as possible so we can focus more time and activities on the children and families we care for.”

“For many years our payroll process was completely manual with multiple spreadsheets, resulting in time being lost on mundane administrative requirements, which needed to be streamlined and simplified, rather than on more valuable activities. Plus, with GDPR coming into force, it was critical that we updated several processes to remain compliant.”

In January 2018, MHR carried out a comprehensive review of Acorns HR and Payroll processes, identifying areas that could be optimised within its iTrent solution, and put in place a three year digitisation plan.

Anton Roe, Chief Executive Officer at MHR comments: “We’re delighted to support Acorns through its transformation journey as it looks to embrace new digital methods of working and become more strategic in the way in manages its people. The transformation project at Acorns is a perfect example of how working closely with our strategic team, organisations can maximise the potential of iTrent to introduce best practice processes which save time and release people to focus on more valuable tasks.”
