EMIS acquires medical appraisals specialist FourteenFish

EMIS Group has announced its second acquisition of 2022, purchasing medical appraisals specialist FourteenFish.

Founded by a GP and IT specialist in 2012, the UK-based technology company supports over 100,000 healthcare professionals, such as nurses, GPs and practice managers.

They are known for providing an easy-to-use, modern, Trainee Portfolio and Appraisal Toolkit that has become an important tool for doctors and other health professionals across the country and internationally.

Evidently, it has become the preferred appraisal toolkit partner for the Royal College of GPs (RCGP) and delivers the RCGP portfolio for trainee GPs.

FourteenFish’s plan is to build further by reaching more health professionals with their appraisal system and have their trainee portfolio used by other specialists. By increasing their education offering and expanding on the content they have already, they believe they can further develop their remote consultation tool for educational purposes.

Dr Duncan Walling, Co-founder of FourteenFish, said: “Both EMIS and FourteenFish were founded by doctors for doctors and we are both driven to improve value and provide tools and systems to improve the working lives of those caring for patients. EMIS is perhaps best known for providing market leading clinical software to healthcare organisations across every major UK health sector – from GP surgeries to community pharmacies to acute care.

“EMIS is also supporting some ground breaking work in data analytics, most recently helping research organisations review and query covid-19 data in a fast, efficient and intuitive way.

“Given the unprecedented pressures on NHS professionals following the pandemic, I am delighted that we can now expand our reach and impact by becoming part of EMIS.”

Dr Shaun O’Hanlon, EMIS Group chief medical officer, explained: “This is a timely acquisition that will enable EMIS to further support healthcare professionals at a time when pressures on their workloads, especially for those working in primary care, has never been higher.

“FourteenFish’s suite of learning tools and its philosophy to make learning easier and more enjoyable for healthcare professionals will add real value to our customers and expand our reach in an important space within the healthcare industry.

“I very much look forward to seeing the positive impact we can have in supporting the professional development of many more healthcare professionals through innovative technology.”

The FourteenFish deal follows EMIS’ acquisition of primary care data and analytics specialist Edenbridge Healthcare. Founded in 2014, they are a provider of real-time insights to primary care, supporting over 1,000 organisations and GP practices.
