Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust appoints new CDIO

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has announced that the new post of chief digital information officer will replace its director of digital position, with Dr Jason Bincalar to join the trust from January 2024.

The trust says that the creation of this leadership post “reflects the significance in this area, and will help us to create a digitally focused environment. The emerging digital strategy will be a huge support and enabler for our other strategies across the organisation that are currently being developed.”

Jason, a judge for the HTN Awards, is described as “an experienced digital leader, academic, chartered engineer, and Fellow of the British Compute Society”, with experience leading NHS digital services from 2008 including at hospitals such as Barts, Royal Brompton, Royal Marsden and Royal Liverpool. In addition, he chairs the NHS Skills Development Network annual student conference, where new generations of digital, data and technology graduates are inducted, and is attached to the Institute of Population Health “where his fellowship promotes the use of health data science and digital strategy to pioneer healthier, fairer and better lives”.

He joins Ashford and St Peter’s from his role as chief information officer at Liverpool University Hospitals.

June saw us report on the news that Surrey Heartlands ICB opened a £3 million virtual care digital platform tender; we also interviewed Surrey’s CEO Claire Fuller last year, to hear her thoughts on the key skills needed by a digital leader and digital in primary care.
