Barts Health NHS Trust has selected Cynerio’s Healthcare Cybersecurity Platform for deployment across all sites, choosing to implement the full suite including network detection and response for healthcare (NDR-H) technology capable of monitoring network traffic and detecting and responding to threats.
The NDR-H tech from Cynerio sits within the hospital’s network, monitoring traffic without interference to traffic flow. It is designed to identify any unusual traffic, perform analysis and provide alerts to the team regarding any potential attacks, “resulting in full visibility and security analysis of connected devices” including Internet of Things (IoT), Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), information technology and mobile devices. Other expected benefits include deeper insight into network risk, one-click reporting and customised dashboards, and enhancement of medical engineer efficiency through identification of device location.
The choice to implement the platform reportedly follows “thorough evaluation” with the trust pointing to deciding factors including Cynerio’s industry-specific focus, proactive security measures, and reactive measures capable of aiding in the immediate prevention of attacks. It is hoped that the deployment will enable the strategic adoption of approaches “commonly missing from healthcare environments including day-one attack detection, microsegmentation, proactive patching and clear guidance for healthcare staff”.
Within a month Cynerio has reportedly identified more than 9,500 previously unmonitored devices for ongoing monitoring from within Barts Health.
From Barts Health, Ian Lyon comments: “The ease that we have been able to deploy Cynerio at our two primary data centres and start getting day one value has been amazing and is quickly becoming a valuable tool in our cyber security tooling.”
Cyber security in the news
Yesterday HTN reported how NHS England opened a market engagement stage, ahead of an upcoming NHS Cyber Risk Rating Platform tender, designed to support NHS organisations to “better understand their security posture” and their management of threats that could impact on operations and organisational data.
We recently also reported how Cheshire and Merseyside ICS also selected Cynerio’s Healthcare Cybersecurity Platform for implementation at all 17 trusts within its footprint, as part of the ICS investing in defences to better protect patient data, minimise vulnerabilities and reduce disruptions to care.
Last month, we explored reader views by asking where the biggest priority for health and care cyber security should lie; you can take a look at the results here.
We’ll also be hosting a virtual panel examining best practices for cyber security in healthcare on 26 February 2025 – sign up for your free NHS ticket here.
