The Rotunda Hospital partners with Isla Health to promote personalised digital pathways in Ireland

The Rotunda Hospital, a leading maternity hospital based in Dublin, has entered into a strategic partnership with Isla Health, a UK-based company that provides a digital pathway platform, to digitise and personalise patient pathways.

The partnership will focus on enhancing patient engagement with personalised digital pathways, to support patients across the entire hospital, including gynaecology, obstetrics, and neonatal care. The programme aims to empower patients to take a more active role in their care and provide clinicians with real-time data to support decision-making.

Aiming to support Rotunda Hospital in delivering its vision of high-quality and sustainable healthcare, the programme intends to reduce unnecessary appointments, improve patient outcomes and promote coordination between acute and outpatient services.

The Isla platform being introduced will support a more integrated way of working by promoting “seamless communication across multidisciplinary teams, with automated data-driven reporting capabilities offering opportunities for the collection and analysis of patient information, driving continuous improvement in care delivery”.

Richard Drew, consultant microbiologist at The Rotunda Hospital, spoke of the opportunities Isla provides for women in improved continuity of care for wound management, noting also the benefits of sharing information leaflets electronically: “This electronic transfer of leaflets is much more in line with the modern world and saves considerable time for clinical and admin staff.”

Isla’s CEO & Co-founder, Peter Hansell, called the partnership “an incredibly proud moment for all of us at Isla”, marking the company’s entry into the European healthcare space. “We are dedicated to setting a new benchmark in integrated healthcare,” he added, “and are thrilled to do so in collaboration with the innovative team at Rotunda Hospital.”

The collaboration aligns with the Irish Health Service Executive’s Digital Health Roadmap, which outlines the need to focus on transforming maternity care through targeted digital innovation, along with six core principles: empowering patients as partners, enhancing workforce capabilities, enabling connected care, driving data-focused services, fostering a digital health ecosystem, and securing robust digital foundations.

Digitising patient journeys and personalising care

A recent HTN Now webinar explored the potential of technology to support chronic wound care. It focused on a case study of Isla’s digital pathway platform at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, highlighting the use of technology to detect pressure ulcers in dark skin tones more effectively.

The Rotunda Hospital’s partnership with Isla marks a “significant step” toward building a sustainable and patient-centred healthcare model in Ireland, promoting the personalisation of care and aiming to improve outcomes for both patients and clinicians.
