Mayo Clinic Platform_Accelerate shares latest cohort of startups deploying AI

The Mayo Clinic Platform_Accelerate has shared an update on its latest cohort of 15 health tech startups, who are utilising AI to solve health challenges from monitoring heart and lung conditions to detecting alcohol use, tracking disease progression, and predicting life-threatening complications.

Startups are involved from across the globe, each utlising access to Mayo Clinic’s de-identified datasets, validation frameworks, clinical workflow planning, and mentorship.

Some of the solutions featured in this latest cohort include Bloom Standard’s RAPIDscan ultrasound device, which helps detect and monitor heart and lung conditions with AI-driven guidance for diagnosis and referrals; Ethos‘s AI-powered platform to monitor alcohol use and help health providers identify and treat those at risk for alcohol-associated liver disease; and PEP‘s AI “persona”, which is said to help hospitals identify post-acute care candidates and streamline the recovery process, supporting handoffs between acute and post-acute providers.

A solution developed by Respiree employs AI and machine learning to help track and manage disease progression based on EHR data; whilst Smart Opinion Inc.‘s tool uses AI to enhance ultrasound accuracy to support the early detection of breast cancer; Voythos‘s machine learning platform predicts life-threatening complications in patients with complex aortic disease; and Whyze Health‘s solution uses AI to integrate clinical and patient data across home and hospital settings to enable continuous monitoring.

Jamie Sundsbak, senior manager of Mayo Clinic Platform_Accelerate, said: “We are incredibly proud to celebrate these 15 companies. Their dedication and accomplishments have raised the bar, and we look forward to continuing to support their efforts as they make strides in advancing patient care worldwide.”

Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust has signed a memorandum of understanding agreement with one of the oldest and largest hospitals in Vietnam, with the aim to “collaborate on enhancing specific clinical services” and expand their research portfolio. Part of the agreement with Children’s Hospital 1 of Ho Chi Minh City, also focuses on developing a Children’s Hospital Healthcare Innovation Centre in Vietnam.

North London NHS Foundation Trust published its digital strategy, with a focus on AI and data, EPR optimisation, launching an NLFT app building programme, digital foundations and infrastructure, creating a culture of innovation, and supporting staff with digital skills. The trust hopes to create an environment in which new technologies can be embraced and innovation can be encouraged. It notes the importance of developing the ability to “quickly adopt and implement new digital tools” such as AI-enhanced triage and virtual care platforms, and makes a commitment to creating a centralised innovation hub to allow the testing and scaling of new solutions, and to ensure the trust remains “agile and responsive to the evolving needs of its service users”.
