Health Technology Wales search for new digital solutions

Health Technology Wales, a national body within NHS Wales to support partner collaboration, has commenced a ‘digital open topic call’ to identify new digital health technologies for Wales to solve current health and care challenges.

They are inviting different professionals from health and social care, technology developers and members of the public to participate in the programme and submit their digital solutions.

The body said the digital health technologies may include software, programmes, or apps to use within health and care. With a deadline of 31 July to apply, Health Technology Wales are looking for innovations that will have a great impact on their health and care services, with an emphasis on improving services for patients and carers.

From this, Health Technology Wales will produce national guidance on the technologies and whether they should be adopted across Wales – with evidence produced on each technology that could be introduced.

Previous examples of technologies that were supported by Health Technology Wales include a scanner sensor for blood glucose levels called FreeSytle Libre to help diabetes patients manage their condition.

Eluned Morgan, Minister for Health and Social Services, explained: “There is growing demand for digital solutions that can address the complex challenges facing the health and social care sectors in Wales, particularly as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have already seen how digital technology can revolutionise care and improve quality of life for people across Wales, allowing those with health conditions or social care needs to live independently for longer within their community.”

Paul Mears, CEO of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, added: “Innovation is the driving force behind everything we do in the NHS, enabling us to adapt to the evolving challenges we face and provide the best possible care to patients and service users. This open topic call will enable Health Technology Wales to identify innovative digital solutions that could make a real difference to the lives of people in Wales.”
