Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust introduces digital endoscopy reporting system

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust has introduced a digital endoscopy reporting system called Medilogik, to support standardised reporting and real-time documentation of procedures.

The solution was launched as a replacement to their previous reporting system and has helped to “enhance patient safety, streamline clinical workflows and improve the quality of care for patients”. According to the trust, notable benefits include improvements around accuracy and consistency for clinical reports, enhanced collaboration across different teams and locations, a reduction in the administrative burden and a more efficient service overall.

“It provides faster access to clinical information and ensures our reporting is consistent and of high quality,” Thomas Wareing, endoscopy manager, said. “The system supports the safe delivery of care while also helping us meet national standards and performance targets. We welcomed the new system as it supports both operational efficiency and quality improvement. It also contributes to our sustainability goal by eliminating the need for paper.”

Medilogik has been introduced as part of the trust’s wider Digital Transformation Programme, which aims to improve patient care through the adoption of innovative technology. “This is a fantastic example of digital transformation supporting better patient care. The team has worked incredibly hard and we’re already seeing the benefits of Medilogik in our day-to-day operations,” Dr John Jones, executive medical director, shared.

Clinical reporting and documentation management: the wider trend

NHS England recently published an ADHD data improvement plan, with a roadmap setting out planned actions to improve data quality and introduce regular reporting. “We know our ADHD service provision has not kept pace with demand and there is a need to improve access, experience and outcomes,” the plan states, outlining the importance of accurate data in helping understand patient experience, enable service improvement and support work on tackling health inequalities.

University Maternity Hospital Limerick went live with the national maternal & newborn clinical management system, replacing their paper-based records with the electronic health record. According to the Health Service Executive Mid West, UMHL is now the fifth hospital in Ireland to have implemented this system as part of a national initiative, which is aimed at improving communication across the hospital, providing real-time access to patient information and “supporting safer, more coordinated care for women and newborns”.

In April of this year, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust went live with the CCube electronic document management system by Noveva Software Group. It followed a migration of 8 million digital documents from the previous incumbent Kainos Evolve system. The trust’s in-house scanning bureau is now also live-scanning patient documents into the CCube platform, supporting the organisation in making a rich patient record available to health and care teams across the organisation.
