TPP has been awarded a contract worth over $5 million to implement its electronic health record system in Jamaica.
Speaking in the House of Representatives in Jamaica on Tuesday (November 22), Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Christopher Tufton announced the plans.
In 2019 the Jamaican Ministry of Health and Wellness launched a plan to provide better services and more equitable delivery, setting out a roadmap to redevelop its health system. Speaking earlier this week Dr Tufton said: “A critical component of these plans is the increase use of technology, to streamline the health system and create greater efficiency.”
More recently, an ICT infrastructure contract has been awarded and implementation has started with a local telecoms provider to create a network between 105 hospitals and health centres across the country. Dr Tufton said that it is “game changing that we are networking across services.”
The Health and Wellness Minister then moved on to speak about the approval of a contract with TPP for the implementation of its EHR across 13 health and care services. He said: “This is the first technology driven element of its kind in Jamaica and the region”, calling it something that Jamaica should be “very proud of.” He also highlighted the “urgent need to enhance integration” across its services.
13 facilities will form part of a pilot programme over the next 18 months where TPP’s EHR will be introduced.
