NHS Blood and Transplant partners with Marvel for video awareness campaign

NHS Blood and Transplant has teamed up with Marvel Studios for an online awareness raising campaign around how to donate blood and why it matters, using the opportunity to highlight how NHS hospitals rely on 3,700 blood donations daily.

As part of the campaign, a short video has been released featuring actors Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds encouraging people to sign up to give blood, and noting that a single blood donation has the potential to save three lives.

NHS Blood and Transplant: in focus

Earlier this year, HTN reported how NHS Blood and Transplant released a virtual reality training app designed to simulate the process of testing blood for transfusions and boost recruitment for transfusion science specialism roles. The immersive training sees users enter a virtual transfusion lab and meet a patient, with the processing emulating real life as they follow procedure to test the blood group of the sample and select the correct unit of blood.

Looking back, we also previously explored NHS Blood and Transplant’s strategy up to 2026, including plans on the modernisation of operations, improved data use, and utilisation of emerging technologies and consumer trends.

The wider NHS

In other updates recently shared by NHS England, we looked into clinical guidance for the automation and functionality of patient portals; general practice guidance focusing on using data to manage variation in demand and capacity; and plans to roll out AI to reduce non-attendance.

HTN also reported on the impact of the recent South East London cyber attack on NHS organisations; and a £4.2 million opportunity for services to support a cyber security focused programme and assurance model.
